I wouldn't have been able to put a positive spin on it like that! But it seems like it has been a great vehicle for the majority of the time, which is great for you :) I'm particularly surprised its only a 1.8L!!! Thats a lot of weight to haul around... Reminds me of Richard Hammond's converted VW-houseboat on Top Gear :P

[...] After the pleasantness of heated toilets and birdsong our polish campsite was a little on the cold, depressing side. While cheap, and very well located, we pitched our camper at what is a hotel for Christians – better known as a pray centre. Other guests were all sporting ‘Pray Tour 2010′ t-shirts. I should add that we were no more than 1km from Auschwitz concentration camp – which can read my account of here.
Very insightful Glen. I too was a bartender in my uni days and I sometimes felt a tad guilty about feeding the alcoholic addictions. It is sad, especially when you see the same people day in and day out.
The funny thing is though, come back to the same pub 10 years from now and there will be the same drunk people, just different people serving them :) wistfully drinking away the years... sigh.

Thanks for the comment :) and the link - I think the problem in the UK is that, unlike the Aus, nobody knows or enforces the laws. In Australia it's not perfect however it is VERY common to be cut off and cut off early. I'm yet to be in a bar in the UK that has cut anyone, other than the completely smashed (and I'm talking vomit/falling down) drunks off.

The culture here in the UK is also different - the Pint for a start I think is one major problem. A single pint is 2.4 standard units which in Australia would make you legally drunk after 1 drink.

The realisation that I am, in some small way, contributing to their problem doesn't really cause me any moral dilemas, it just makes me sad that most of these people have written themselves off and will never change their lives.
